The Oristano Territory

Cradle of traditions and natural beauty

Immersed in the rich history and natural beauty of Sardinia, the territory of Oristano enchants visitors with its unique charm. Its ancient traditions, vibrant culture, and breathtaking beaches of the coastline offer an unforgettable experience to anyone who sets foot there.

Il Sinis

Distance: 16 Km – 22 Min.

The Sinis peninsula is a fertile and happy land, with ancient salt pans and ponds. Beaches, coves, and a gulf have always welcomed those who sail. From Mont’e Prama starts the road of the Sinis open-air museum, a natural archaeological park, which narrates the development of a seven-thousand-year history, with connections and evolutions between the various phases.

Tharros

Distance: 17 Km – 25 Min.

The ancient settlement of Tharros is located at the tip of the Sinis peninsula. It unfolds in the Gulf of Oristano on a sort of natural amphitheatre bordered to the North by the hill of Su Murru Mannu, to the West by that of the tower of San Giovanni, and to the South by the isthmus connecting the latter to the promontory of Capo San Marco. Tharros was founded towards the end of the 8th century BC and was abandoned around the year 1050 AD to give rise to Aristiane, the current Oristano. An important protohistoric village (Middle-Late Bronze Age) is still visible today.

Monte Prama

Distance: 18 Km – 20 Min.

The most important archaeological discovery in the Mediterranean of the 20th century, begun in 1974, is shrouded in legend and continues to unearth findings. The 28 stone colossi are the only stone statues that the Nuragic world has returned to us, as well as the oldest ‘in the round’ in the Mediterranean, dating back three thousand years.

La Sartiglia

Distance: 5 Km – 8 Min.

La Sartiglia is a star race held on the last Sunday and Tuesday of Carnival in Oristano, where Carnival and Sartiglia are practically synonymous. It is one of the oldest equestrian events still taking place in the Mediterranean area and among the most spectacular forms of Carnival in Sardinia, and it is the quintessential event of Oristano.
